Here are some helpful tips to remember once you are on your way to becoming a successful model:

  1. Make sure you carry your own make up, although there are beauticians, it is still a good idea to carry your own make up.
  2. Always make sure to inform your family where you are going for shoot, so that they are aware of where you are. In unfortunate situations, it may come as a great help.
  3. You have to be straight with your prospective employers, so that at the end of the day you are not taken for a ride. At the same time, you should also be willing to negotiate with your employers, don’t just quit because you are not ready to take up the offer that is offered to you, but think rationally and make right decisions so that you don’t lose out.
  4. Always check your signed agreements by your employers or contractors and follow up on it on a regular basis.
  5. You should not feel pressured to do something that you don’t like to do. Do not allow your self to be manipulated but stand up for what you believe in.
  6. Create a good rapport with your contractors and professionals so that they respect you all the time.
  7. Whenever you go for a shoot, be prepared with your clothes, so that you don’t embarrass yourself at the last minute.

Good worth ethics, a professional attitude, imagination, networking skills, discipline, persistence and a plan of action is must in this profession.

With it being a glamorous profession, modeling is also a profession of hard work, which is really admired and respected. There are models even work 24/7 to be successful in their career.

Modeling is not like the other regular 9 – 5 jobs but it is a lifestyle. You have to shed all inhibitions and let the industry welcome you into their fold. You should also be ready to face people and society. Dealing with the good and the bad is all part of professionalism.

Modeling needs faith - you need to have faith in yourself and in your profession. A Miss Universe or Miss World has not arrived at that stage by chance – she has put in grueling hours at work and polished herself to reach the zenith of her modeling career.

One of the main criteria for modeling is to network with the right people and the right agencies. For that you need to have professionally made comp card or a composite card. It has become an essential today. Comp card identifies who you really are, so it is big help in being identified by big private modeling agencies. A comp card has to be designed attractively and professionally, because the first impression is the last impression. The right comp card can make the difference of winning a contract or losing it.

There are numerous agencies and private professionals who abuse their profession. So look out for registered agencies that are genuine and are really interested in boosting your career in the profession of modeling. Watch out for agencies and private professionals who demand money from you before hand; because probably they are just out to make a quick buck.

Genuine modeling agencies have legal paper work and formalities that they complete before they sign you. They give you one copy and they keep the other and with that you have all rights to claim in case of any misconduct or if you have been abused and want to file a case.

A Model’s Personality

In short, you need to be perfectionist in every sense. You must have an appealing personality and being sensuous too.

Performance in Modeling

Every model has to make the effort of being polite, have mannerly attitude in the profession. Patience is a virtue you need to have in this profession that will help you survive in the industry long term. 

Performance points towards doing your best and making yourself ‘the best’ in the profession. Your performance is first seen through your portfolio. Choosing the right photographer is the key. You need to search for the best photographer. He or she will guide you with the best poses in photography and highlight your strengths in the photographs.

Modeling is also indirectly marketing you to be the best amongst the rest. In your performance, your first impression has to be the best, so that you stand out and you are picked up as unique among the rest.

Modeling is marketing because you are not the only one, but you are into competition with many others, and so you have to really take care in this profession to stay ahead of the competition.

Be optimistic about your looks and the way you present yourself. Your unique way of thinking will make you stand apart from the rest. There are millions of attractive faces out there, but it totally depends on how you present yourself to the world.

Your photographers will help you creatively exploit your natural beauty and teach you about the best shots for your portfolio. Your photographs need to have originality that screams out your individuality.

If you do decide to become a professional model, you must accept the reality of being committed to your profession.

A Healthy Diet is the Key

The first rule to follow is - a model should not diet or in other words deprive herself of food. Dieting is not considered to be healthy, because your body lacks important vitamins and minerals. This results in you looking pale and undernourished.

One should have healthy diet, comprising of pulses, fruits and drinking plenty of water – about three liters everyday. Eating a balanced diet is important, and you should also have an everyday chart to mark what you are eating.

Having said that, many in the profession of modeling prefer to practice yoga, since a lot of difference can be seen when you are a regular practitioner of yoga. Yoga is necessary to release stress and it increases the confidence level in a person. There are majority of young girls who are into modeling and prefer taking Yoga classes.

If you have enough time, you can think about joining a gym to stay fit and tone your body. But one thing that you need to take care of is that you must go to the gym regularly without missing it and make sure that you have an excellent personal trainer, who designs a personalized exercise regime for you.
